Ponds Forge, Sheffield

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre Built for the World Student Games of 1991, Ponds Forge has proved itself to be one of the finest pools in the world. Numerous world records have been set in the Sheffield pool since it was built nearly 20 years ago and it's considered to be one of the fastest facilities in the country.

Ponds Forge is regularly used for the biggest meets in the UK and we're fortunate to have it so close to Doncaster. Both Yorkshire and North East Championships are often held here along with pretty much every open meet that can be squeezed in.

Competition Facilities

Ponds Forge is one of the most popular venues in European swimming, it offers:

Travelling (Car Park and Directions)

Ponds Forge is one of the easiest pools to travel to. It's situated a short walk from Sheffield station and immediately next door to the Transport Interchange (Bus Station) overlooking Park Square roundabout.

Although the pool has its own car park, it fills up very quickly for big events. There is adequate city centre parking within easy walking distance of the pool though (charges vary). A favourite car park is the Victoria Quays multi-storey at £3 for a full day (last checked Jan 2009) which is just a foot bridge away from the pool.

Additional Information

Ponds Forge is well known for being oppresively hot. It is recommended that swimmers take plenty of drinks or performances will be affected during the afternoon. Coaches have been seen arriving with 5l bottles of water to last them through each day!
