Junior / Senior Nationals

Heathcliffe Aldridge

A creditable 33rd for Heathcliffe at the ASA National Championships in Sheffield.

Event: 50m Breaststroke;
Time: 32.51

The final, televised by the BBC, was won by Darren Mew (University of Bath) in 28.31.

Age Group Nationals

15/16 Years Team

NEC Champions for 2000, the 16 years team should have been fighting for medals at this year's nationals. But:
- Long term injury ruled out Michael Gartside;
- Matthew Pears ruled out by family holiday.

Andrew Jones (National Team Bronze, 1998) was recalled to a severely weakened team but couldn't make up for the double loss.

Frustratingly, their comfortable medley win at the NECs would have earned 4th place in Coventry (even without Michael).

Matthew Pears

Our first competitor in this year's age-group events. Matthew also gained our highest placing of the week (14th, 100m Bs).

James Male

Three individual finals 2 years ago, James qualified for four events this time around! Alas, a poor end to the year - no finals.

Adam Muscroft

The climax to a great year for Adam:
- Yorkshire Champion in March,
- Agonising wait for his National QT;
- Just outside the medals at NECs.
His first ever appearance at the National Championships earned him 27th place.

NEC Championships (July 2000)

Once again the 15/16 boys fly the flag:
- Silver: James Male (50m Fc);
- Bronze: Matthew Pears (100m Bs).
Plus 5 more finalists across the 15/16 team.

Adam Muscroft, having recently qualified for the Nationals, just missed the medals:
- 5th: 100m Fly;
- 5th: 200m Fly (his first, 200m Fly).

Christina Bailey (8th, 100m Fly), and Natalie Kelleher (6th, 100m Bs) also finalled.

MYG, South Yorks

Doncaster swimmers took part in the South Yorkshire Millennium Youth Games.

In both age groups, the Doncaster swimmers easily out classed teams from Sheffield, and Rotherham.

Most will go on to represent South Yorkshire at the National event in Southampton during August.

NEC Teams

The 16 years boys team make a strong start to the long course championships season:
- Gold: Medley team;
- Bronze: Freestyle team.
Thus booking their place at the ASA National Championships at Coventry in August.

Matthew Pears also qualified for the nationals while leading off the Freestyle team.

Yorkshire Teams

Following on from their success earlier in the month at the NEC Teams, the 16 years boys team try for the double:
- Gold: Medley Team;
- Silver: Freestyle Team.
But just miss out!

The boys are joined in the medals by the 10 year old girls' medley team.
- Bronze: Medley Team.
An excellent results earns them their spot on the honours table.
