Articles by Dartes Swimmers Past and Present
Every now and again, someone pops up out of the deep end and writes an article for the website.
Sometimes these are former Dartes swimmers with happy memories to share.
Often they're current members with something special or interesting to shout about.
Either way, if it's interesting and in some way connected to Dartes or Doncaster Swimming, we'll probably publish it.
Here's one of those articles.
The Stories behind the Headlines
Back in February Max Litchfield (Spa) took part in a Yorkshire SA training camp in Calella, Spain. We asked him to tell you a little about it.
Yorkshire SA Training Camp, Calella, Spain
We were to fly from Leeds/Bradford Airport on Sunday 15th February. We met up at the airport around 11am and were given our Yorkshire Swim Camp T-shirt, swim cap and Hoodie and we were soon on our way.
As the following list shows, many of the top names from the last two weekends of Yorkshire Championships were also present on the camp.

We stayed at the Hotel Bernat, a four star hotel in the centre of Calella. The food was excellent with as much as you can eat buffet’s each meal time. The rooms were comfortable and I was roomed with Oliver Webster (CASA) and Matthew Sleight (KUH).
The weather was sunny and around 14 degrees everyday.
Training was 7am - 9am, and 2pm - 4pm everyday at the Crol Centre 50m outdoor pool which was only a short walk from the Hotel. There was also a 20 minute land session after every pool session.
Training was very hard and tiring; in the seven sessions we did we covered 44,300m through the week. The hardest session included the following freestyle set of 20 x 200s:
- 5 @ PB + 35 secs
- 5 @ PB + 25 secs
- 5 @ PB + 15 secs
- 3 @ PB + 5-10 secs
- 2 @ PB (best effort)
We were all shattered after that one!
Overall, it was a really hard week. We all improved our skills in all strokes and our stamina. I enjoyed every minute of it and can’t wait to go on another one!
