The Stories behind the Headlines
Welsh Silver for Emma
24 Aug: While the rest of you were either at Nationals or Bradford at the beginning of August, Emma Humphreys (Ros) was flying the flag at Welsh Nationals.
Competing in the new Wales National Pool in Swansea, she earned herself two Bronze medals (100m Butterfly and 200m IM). In the 200m Butterfly she won the heats, but got touched out into Silver medal position in the final.
Mencap British LD Championships
24 Aug: More bounty for [Name Removed] (Drn) at the 4th Mencap British Learning Disabilities Champs on Saturday
First up was a Gold medal for 100m IM.
Followed by more Gold in the 200m Backstroke for a swim that leaves her just 2sec off the S14 British Record.
Earlier this year she claimed the S14 European 200m Butterfly record.

Swimming Magazine Coup -- It's a Slow News Month
22 Aug: This month we appear to have pulled off something of a coup with regards the letters pages of British Swimming's two major swimming magazines.
The double whammy began with Kim Smith (Arm) who managed to place our 2008/9 Team Photo in pride of place on the letters page of Aquazone (see below if you're too old to be allowed to read AquaZone). Excellent stuff Kimi and sister Kelly who also tried.
Then yours truly managed to lay claim to the Letter of the Month in Swimming Times. Just in case anyone is wondering, no the goodybag of swim equipment from SwimShop hasn't arrived yet.
To anyone who might now be thinking that this was a coordinated attempt to generate publicity during what is always a very slow news month, rest assured it was nothing of the sort (or if it was we're denying it).
Honestly, would we do something like that?
Matt Heading for Beacon Programme
16 Aug: The 9th member of our 2009 National Squad Matthew Davies (Arm) has accepted an invitation to join the ASA's Regional Beacon programme for the East of England.
Former Dartes Head Coach Roy Shepherdson invited Matt to join his elite senior programme after qualifying for Nationals back in May. The opportunity to train full time at an ASA Beacon program was simply too good to refuse and he'll be leaving shortly to make the short trip to Norwich.
It's likely Matt will return North to represent Dartes at Yorkshire County Championships early next year. From everyone at Dartes, we wish Matt all the best on his new adventure with his new team mates at UEA Norwich.
Max and Sophie Selected for England Talent Programme
15 Aug: Off the back of winning four Bronze medals between them at last month's Nationals, Max Litchfield (Spa) and Sophie Taylor (Arm) have been selected for the prestigious ASA England Talent Development Programme.
Three camps are held over the coming season at Macclesfield, Sunderland, and Leeds and coaching will be led by City of Leeds Age Group coach Richard Denigan. These camps always have a strong skills bias and this season they will be supported by video assisted stroke analysis.
National Final for [Name Removed]
2 Aug: Up and coming S14 star [Name Removed] (Drn) takes 10th place in the 400m Freestyle final at nationals today.
A 10sec PB earned her the final spot on the last day of competition at Ponds Forge.
