Chris Armstrong of Doncaster Water Polo
Every now and again, someone pops up out of the deep end and writes an article for the website.
Sometimes these are former Dartes swimmers with happy memories to share.
Often they're current members with something special or interesting to shout about.
Either way, if it's interesting and in some way connected to Dartes or Doncaster Swimming, we'll probably publish it.
Here's one of those articles.

Chris Armstrong: Polo Boy!
22 Nov: You may have spotted Chris Armstrong in the pool training with the premier squad on a regular basis, so we thought it was about time we let you know a bit more about this young Water Polo star.
Chris first started out as a competitive swimmer in one of Doncaster's clubs. He later progressed on to another swimming discipline, Water Polo, with the Doncaster team run by Brian Taylor. Brian has produced a number of very talented players in the past few years; three of those players have also gone on to represent Great Britain! This is an amazing achievement that unfortunately gets very little recognition within the Doncaster area. Well done Brian for all your hard work over the years and everyone else on the Doncaster coaching team. All of Doncaster's GB players also started out swimming at Doncaster's clubs: 2 from Edlington, and 1 from Dearne Valley.
Chris is one of the GB 3, and has recently represented Great Britain Junior men on a number of occasions. These include the Slowianka Cup in Poland (30 April- 4 May 2008) in which he competed against teams from Turkey, Poland and Lithuania. After that competition, Chris then attended a training camp with team GB in France (8 May - 11 May 2008). This camp also included a friendly match against France. Straight after this Chris went into battle once again, this time playing in the European Qualifiers in Bulgaria (14 May - 20 May 2008) against teams from Bulgaria, Spain, Poland, Belgium and Macedonia.
Chris is currently part of the Rotherham Metro Water Polo Men's team. Last season he helped them be crowned British Champions (24 April 2008). He is currently also part of the squad that has just competed in the 1st round of the Euro League in Slovenia (1 October - 5 October 2008), and the second round of the LEN Trophy in Barcelona (29 October- 2 November 2008).
So that's a brief resume of Chris 'Polo Boy' Armstrong. Next time you see him training, give the lad a pat on the back and a firm shake of the hand as you say 'Great stuff Chris, well done!'.
The Doncaster Water Polo team are always looking for young players that are interested in having a try at the sport. They train on Thursday Nights at St James pool in Doncaster town centre (boys and girls). If any club swimmers reading this are up for a challenge, or Dartes swimmers wanting a crack at something slightly different, why not pop along and have a chat with Brian Taylor [Contact details are also available from the webmaster.]
Everyone at Dartes would like to congratulate Chris and all of his coaches on his achievements. We are delighted to be able to provide him with the swim training he needs to succeed at Water Polo. We look forward to seeing him progress even further in the sport in the coming years and will attempt to keep everyone informed of his exploits here on the Dartes website.
Keep up the hard work Polo Boy.
