GB Disability Camp

At the beginning of May 2010, Chloë Selman (Spa) was selected to attend a British Disability Swimming Training Camp in Mallorca. It was part of the team's preparation for World Championships in August. Venue of choice for their fortnight in the sun was The BEST Centre owned by former GB Olympians Steve Parrack and Matthew O'Connor.

It also happens to be where a select group of Dartes athletes will be heading for an intensive training camp in October, so we thought you'd like a sneak preview of the facilities.

It looks a bit cloudy and not the blazing sunshine you'd expect, but we're promised they did fly to Mallorca and not Margate.

Of course, if the Best Centre would like to give us a hefty discount we'd be happy to air brush out all the clouds and make it look utterly gorgeous ;-)

Blue Water, Blue Skies!

Only kidding, it was only cloudy on Team Photo day.

Don't let Chloë's lack of a tan fool you, they were kept out of the sun most of the time. The blue skies were out in force.

Why is she smiling?

Don't say she prefers a sparkly, out door, 50m pool over Hall Cross. Surely not.
Happy and Smiling
The problem coaches have on training camps is knowing what to wear poolside.

It's Mallorca, it's going to be hot and sunny so pack a load of shorts. Then after the first morning by the pool the suitcase gets raided for warm sweaters and wind proof jackets while the legs develop frost bite!

It does look a bit chilly, we'd best pop inside.

Inside and to the on-site Torture Chamber.

This is either Sleeping Lions (the primary school teacher's favourite), or some variety of abdominal muscle torture.

My money's on the latter.

It just had to be Pink!

Watch out Team GB, if that girl gets her way your team kit will be changing colour!
It just had to be pink!
Ooooh Blimey!
Toys R Us eat your heart out!

There's quite an assortment of toys just waiting for Coach Wallace to conjure up a week's worth of amusements with. Juggling medicine balls perhaps; who can perform a hand stand on a swiss ball the longest (don't try either of those at home kids -- no really, don't!)
No, you didn't just walk into Toys R Us
Everyone start praying for October Sunshine!

The flights are booked, the lanes are reserved, but we'll be sleeping in tents on the beach so fingers crossed it's going to be warm.

Don't worry, average temperatures in Mallorca during October (when we will be there) are above 20C; the beach will be lovely.
Pray for sun, it's solar heated
