NER Champs, 2010

We had lots to smile about over the NER BAGCAT weekends. So much so that it turned in to something of a grinning contest. Last chance for National Qualifying and a few tee-shirt grabbers took advantage of it. A few first time NER medals thrown in too.

A very special moment for Luke as he takes his first ever Regional medal.

We did promise him an appearance on Dartes TV for this swim - we might even get around to adding it soon. Or maybe we'll wait until he wins Gold next year.
First NER medal for Luke
Another Freestyle medal for Rachael. This time Bronze in the 200m.

Three other top 10 placings for her over these championships to go with this medal.
Bronze for Rachael
Double NER Backstroke Champion!

We might not have got round to adding Luke's swim to Dartes TV, but after Mark's dominating Backstroke performances we had to include at least one of his.

Not this one though, this was the 200m presentation.
All conquering Mark
She'd already qualified for Nationals at 200m Butterfly by this point, but here was an outside chance of a second swim for the 100m Freestyle.

In the end she missed it by a finger nail, but Bronze was her consolation prize.
Missed NQT by a finger nail
In the heats she'd missed NQT by the smallest of margins. An agonising wait over lunch and a new swim suit later and Heidi returned for the final in determined mood.

She went out hard and hung on to the leading pair for the first 100m, then digging deep in the 2nd 100m she smashed the NQT and won the Bronze medal to boot.

Cheesy grin time.
Heidi finally gets the time
And then came a few more cheesy grins celebrating Gold medals.

For Shannon Gold in the 200m Backstroke to accompany Gold in the 100m Freestyle and a Silver in the 100m Backstroke.
Shannon 2 Golds and 1 Silver
Cheeky and Cheesy - that'll be Joe then.

A sensational 100m Butterfly earning him an NQT, the icing on the cake of a personal medal haul of 2 Golds, 2 Silvers, and 1 Bronze.
Joe NQT and Gold for 100m Butterfly
He tried so hard to join in the cheesy grin contest that we didn't have the heart to leave him out!

Kingston upon Hull Coach Nick Mills is taken by surprise wearing embarrassing green head gear. He lost a bet with one of his swimmers and had to wear it all day long!

As if that wasn't bad enough, we reckon he's had his teeth whitened. What do you think?
Nick Mills goes green
That's more like it.
If you want a cheesy grin, find a Dartes kid.

Jarvis earns a Silver medal in the 400m IM on the way to yet another NQT.
Jarvis: Silver and NQT
Even the coaches were getting in on the act.

Phase 4 Coach Dave, sporting the official Dartes hair style, has a crack at a cheesy grin too. Jarvis, Joe, and Reece attempt to give advice but that's the best he could muster.
Coach Dave debriefs Jarvis
Beth and Jess were in the top 20 too, so it's only fair to give them a cheesy grin moment.

Hey, that's pretty good girls.
Top 20 spots for Beth and Jess
But the winner of the cheesy grin contest is ...

Nah, that's rubbish Coach!
It's been a long weekend for Head Coach Wallace
But the winner of the cheesy grin contest is ...

8th place in the 100m Breaststroke final was enough motivation for Georgia to pull off the grin of the competition.
