Shoulder Stretches Demonstrated & Explained

Behind the Neck

Starting Position:
Take one arm above the head and slide the hand down the centre of the back (as shown).

The Stretch:
Use the opposite arm to pull the elbow towards the centre line as far as comfortable.

Hold all stretches for 30 seconds then release slowly. Repeat for the other arm.

 

Back of Shoulder

Starting Position:
Wrap the arm around the neck and relax.

The Stretch:
Gently push the arm further round the neck and hold for 30 seconds.

Release slowly, and repeat on the other arm.

 

Warning: never stretch beyond the point of discomfort, and never bounce any stretch! All movements should be performed slowly. If in doubt, read the Dos and Don'ts or ask!
